A global platform for photography!

The World Photography Organisation is a global platform for photography initiatives. Working across up to 180 countries, our aim is to raise the level of conversation around photography by celebrating the best imagery and photographers on the planet. We pride ourselves on building lasting relationships with both individual photographers as well as our industry-leading partners around the world.

The World Photography Organisation hosts a year-round portfolio of events including the Sony World Photography Awards, the world’s leading photography competition, and PHOTOFAIRS, international art fairs dedicated to photography.

The Sony World Photography Awards competitions:

  1. Professional – Recognizing outstanding bodies of work
  • Free to enter and open to anyone submitting a series of five to ten images per category
  • Ten diverse categories to enter
  • Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place artists, plus up to ten shortlisted photographers per category
  • One overall winner selected as the Photographer of the Year and recipient of the $25,000 (USD) prize
  • Once you enter the Professional competition you cannot submit work to the Open or Youth competitions
  • Please see ‘Rules’ below for full image eligibility criteria
  • Deadline: January 14, 2020 at 13.00 (GMT)

 

2. Open – Rewarding exceptional standalone images

  • Free to enter and open to anyone submitting single images taken in 2019
  • Ten categories to enter
  • Awards for 1st place plus up to 15 shortlisted photographers per category
  • One overall winner selected as Open Photographer of the Year and recipient of the $5,000 (USD) prize
  • Once you enter the Open competition you cannot submit work to the Professional or Youth competitions
  • Please see ‘Rules’ below for full image eligibility criteria
  • Closing deadline: January 7, 2020 at 13.00 GMT

 

3. Youth – Celebrating the best single images by emerging photographers aged between 12-19 years-old

  • Free to enter and open to all 12-19 year-olds, asked to submit single images taken in 2019
  • New format for 2020: Monthly competitions with a changing theme running from June 1 to December 31, 2019
  • Photographers can enter up to three single images per month
  • Judges will select up to 10 images per month, including one winner
  • All the judge’s monthly picks will compete to be named Youth Photographer of the Year
  • Once you enter the Youth competition you cannot submit work to the Professional or Open competitions
